Overview
Here’s our solid-state Mic pre-amp. Although tubes
and transformers will often complement digital sound, they
should not be the only color on your paint-box!
Using a transparent Mic pre-amp followed by a “colored”
component will leave only the latter’s impact on the
sound. Since “colored” compressors are widely
used, there was a need for a transparent Mic pre-amp. Even
when recording more dynamic material, some engineers route
their signal through compressors with no gain reduction,
just for the “color”.
An accurate, transparent, solid-state Mic pre-amp doesn’t
have to sound “cold”, if it’s well designed.
As with our other products, this unit performs extremely
well in the ultrasonic range we find crucial for a rich,
detailed and focused sound image. As a matter of fact, it’s
almost flat up to 120Khz.
With a clear mid-range, fast rise time and “tons”
of headroom, the MP-4's rich and punchy sound is very popular
in drum and guitar recordings.
